are there 6 month contracts available? Specifically during the northern hemisphere winter for experienced Canadian float pilots?

The mins say 500 hours in the otter on floats to upgrade. I can't imagine DEC Captain without time on type or time doing something similar...CRJ is not.

Just asking that question shows how little you know. Floats is a whole different animal and it would be like going from a 172 to left seat of a CRJ. Having float time on lakes and rivers won't prepare you for what those guys do.

Why don't you just shoot for the DEC 747 job?

How is working at MAT viewed in light of the 5-yr residency requirement for hiring by FedEx, etc? The rule is discussed in more detail on these threads:

Specifically, are you considered resident in the Maldives? I understand that you're actually there on a 3-month work visa, then you leave for 30 days. Do you pay Maldivian taxes on your income?

I just talked to HR at MAT. You don't need any more float experience than it takes to get your SES. But you do need to have Twin Otter experience, even if it's only on land. According to him, they're not sending new hires through Twin Otter training at this time.

He did invite me to send my resume, and they'd keep it on file for if they change their requirements in the future. But without any Twin Otter experience, I'm not going just get an SES rating at this point.
