Emirates Hiring Criteria
#41
Minimum hours for upgrade right now is 6000 Hrs Turbine, 2500 Hrs at EK and 1000 hrs. on the type the upgrade is sought on; plus a clean training record.
Current invitees for the assessment have been with the company about 3.5 years on the Boeing and 5 years on the Airbus.
Maybe TyphoonPilot can chime in with some recent success rates. I've heard numbers of 60% success rate through the whole process a while ago.
But remember that the bulk of our deliveries will taper off after 2015, if not earlier, so these relatively short time to upgrades will most probably not apply for current new hires.

This is somewhat correct. Once you fulfill the upgrade requirements you will be assessed by an upgrade panel in seniority. Once you pass that, you'll start your upgrade training.

Minimum Requirements for Normal Command [B]
The minimum requirements for upgrade to command are:
a. Possession of a valid UAE ATPL.
b. 6,000 hours Total Time (Note 1, Note 2)
c. 2500 hours Emirates operating time and 3 years’ service in
Emirates, on any fleet (Note 2)
d. Four satisfactory PPCs in Emirates on any aircraft type
e. Two satisfactory manual handling simulator sessions on any
Emirates aircraft type
f. 1000 hours Emirates operating time on the fleet on which the
upgrade is planned
g. Two satisfactory PPCs on the fleet in which the upgrade is planned
(Note 2)
Notes:
1. Total Time is defined as all flying as P1 and/or P2, excluding single and
multi-engine piston
2. No alleviations of SFI, non-EK P3, FEO, or any other credits or
reductions are allowed to any hours criteria
Not sure about total success rate. We only see those who get through the command interview and start training. The pass rate for that is relatively high, probably close to 90%. The training is programmed for minimum requirements so it is very common for someone to require additional training. Lately handling skills have been a big issue that require additional training.

Rumour has it that EK is considering recruiting DEC TRI's, most probably on the 330, due to the large amount of training going on and movement of people from the 330 to the 380 and 777. Any truth?

Can't really understand what this session entails. I presume that manual flying(raw data ILS and hand flying during single engine ILS approaches) are done during PPC's.

The two manual handling sessions are different. The original one is flown without autopilot, flight director, or autothrottles. Among other things it has two raw data ILS approaches, one of which single-engine.
The second one has high altitude stalls and a dual engine flameout to a landing. Fun, but of little real practical training value.
No truth to hiring DECs, especially DEC TRIs. They are hiring SFI and SFEs though.

Well I now have the invite out for the final stage of the assessments in Dubai (I went through the pre selection stages and sim already). I have the general layout of the 2 days from HR, but does anyone have any more feedback? Getting more nervous now this getting close to being finalised as really want it. Stuck with Ryanair at the moment, and future is not great ! Any who have been through these last 2 days?
Thanks in advance.

What are their BMI limits? I guess I'm borderline overweight (not a big surprise), I'd have to lose 10 pounds to get under 25. Are 2 sick calls a year too many?
