Absolutely 100% correct, it has been this way for many years.

With massive 787 deliveries, more 777's, and many more 320 on the way, it is possible this may change, but nothing has been mentioned.

They do hire Non Rated guys but mostly as FOs. Rarely if they need to fill a class they have hired 757/767 Captains with extensive experience to fill 777 classes. Upgrade times are becoming faster with massive planned upcoming deliveries. Overall keep in mind this is a Non-Commuting contract as most of the middle east carriers are that way. If you are seeking a commuting contract look elsewhere.

I've got a friend who is looking at applying for Etihad. He is an A330 driver. What's the roster like on that fleet?

At the moment the 330 fleet has probably some of the best flying in the company. At present it consists of nearly every European and Asian city presently flown, with a few of the African destinations. A majority of the 330 drivers are mixed fleet flying with 340, and the 330 freighter. The freighter is a mixed bag, some love it, some hate it. Of course it is always evolving and as routes and frequencies change and the fleets grow, destinations shift around. Upgrades for Airbus are to the 320 regardless of experience.

Thanks for the information. I'll pass that along.
How many hours are you flying a month? 90?
He had been told that he would get 10 to 12 days off a month. Does that sound about right to you?

More than 95 factored hours a month for the last five months. Two or three ULR's each month with 50% credited for limits on the relief sector so it really is about 110-120 hours each month if you fly 330/340. The flying is interesting with the longer flights having the shorter layovers. MEL, SYD and JFK being around 25 hour layovers.
Been getting a good mix of Japan, China, Australia, Europe, USA and Africa...Lagos sucks
Guaranteed 8 days off but with ULR rest works out to about 10 days each month.
You cannot commute and your roster is a real crap shoot, sometimes great, sometimes awful, mostly good flying. The crews are fun, the FA's a little bit different to the US, no cat ranchers here.
