If placed in the hold pool as DEC, what is your guess the upcoming financial year as to what (if any) will be the the demand for DEC? Or do you think one can forget about the DEC prospect altogether for now?

One thing about Emirates is that the plan always changes. Right now they say no more DECs after January on the Boeing, but then they change the plan or something else happens and all of a sudden they need more pilots. There really is no telling what might happen.

I'd say chances are slim in the short term if you haven't already been invited to an interview, but don't give up hope altogether.

Apparently, in a meeting, it was mentioned that there won't be anymore DEC… for now.

To those in the now, does it means no more DEC for the 2013 financial plan at that would also apply to DEC candidates in the hold pool?

Does anyone have a problem applying? I continue to receive this message:

"The page was not displayed because the request entity is too large."

And I have tried on a PC computer with Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. As well as a Macbook on Safari. What to do?!

Just in from HR:

"The course plan for the new Financial Year has now been released. We do not have a requirement for Direct Entry Captains on the Boeing fleet going forward. A small number of DECs will be required on the Airbus fleet. To be eligible for a DEC position on the Airbus fleet, the candidate must be current on Airbus.

We therefore are not in a position to offer you a Direct Entry Captain position with Emirates. We, however, would be able offer you a First Officer position, should this be an option for you."

It is not that we lose any to them, I just hate that place with all my soul. The only reason I even have a hint of thought for them is that kind of forced my hand which led me to EK. I am MUCH happier at EK than I ever thought I would be.

I pay more for tickets in the states sometimes just to avoid DL. I would rent a car or walk before I would ever fly on them. Anywho, I will hush before I start a rant that upsets the MODS.

No no, PILOTGUY, go ahead. The Mods will agree with that you along with all that post on this site are entitled to your views. There are those diehards who are happy to work for US carriers that have cut salaries in half, terminated retirement benefits, slashed health benefits, and deteriorated the terms and conditions of employment.

Then there are those, like myself, disgusted the direction of the airline industry in the US has taken over the past 30 plus years. Some chaps felt they had had to stay behind because of family obligation or what not.


Then there are those who were fed up with the crappy conditions in the US and wanted stay in aviation, but also wanted an alternative. They look beyond the borders of the US. Some looked across the Atlantic, and some across the Pacific. They had a love for the job, but also wanted to earn enough money to pay the bills so to say. They wanted to be treated with respect, provided wages and benefits commensurate to the work performed.

No no PILOTGUY, many do agree that management and MECs in US carriers just about abandoned their work force to satisfy their own greed. Many agree with your sentiments about, not only DAL, but with UAL, AA and other former carriers that went by the wayside though their own demise or through mergers.
That said, enjoy the good life. Enjoy the fact that, if you have a family, you can provide a decent income for them. Enjoy you can provide good healthy food for them. Enjoy the fact that you can pay your bills, and have money left over at the end of the month. Rest assured that your retirement fund is funded when you hang up the goggles you won't have to be a greeter at Walmart, unless you want to.

Yes there are those who want to return to the US and fly for DAL, UAL, or AA. That’s OK too. However, deep thought must be given to such a decision, especially to those expats who are currently captains. They must prepare themselves that upon returning to a US carrier they will be sitting in the right seat for many years to come. Over the years, the reverse transition for some of my colleagues has been very difficult. Lower pay to start with, experiencing further deterioration of benefits, essentially no retirement benefits, and yes, even furloughed… again, no support from the union. Some just missed living overseas.
