the A350 is a 747 replacement and they've specifically built their fleet around avoiding the 747, so this move makes a ton of sense.

You might want to compare specs on the version they ordered and the 747. In fact the CEO of Emirates has pushed for a larger version of the A350 that would be closer to the 747 in passenger loads. The 777X is the only aircraft close to the 747 in capacity and was designed to directly replace the 747. Emirates will be getting a bunch of them.

You mean 787 or perhaps 777. Not 747, right?
