Heard about this article and had to look it up. What it does not say, and I do not know if the Air China pilots realize this, but the airline pays for all their training. Plus, they have the job security that once they make captain, unless they really screw up, they are a captain then for the rest of their life. Talk about Job security.

I also found this article, which goes deeper into the complaints, and it sounds like it is more that the local Air China pilots are unhappy in general, and CNN highlighted the part versus the foreign pilots.

You are a day late and a dollar short....
Below is my favorite quote from the article
"[Foreign pilots] do not have a higher skill or standard compared to us, and are not able to enhance the overall technical skill of the airline," says the letter, claiming foreign pilots enjoy more days off, easier flight routes and much larger salaries than their Chinese counterparts.

sorry about my tardyness. I just heard about the article this week.
Nope, we are not better trained. In fact, we are probably worse pilots because all we know how to do is what is written in the SOPs, and we are constantly checking with lesser pilots (FO, SOs) for their opinion before we make a decision. I'm not a good enough pilot to do it on my own in my own way.
