Default Aviation Personnel International

Anyone have experience with Aviation Personnel International, based in Toronto?

Also wondering, is "AME" equivalent to "A&P", ie: maintenance, outside the U.S.?

AME = Aviation Medical Examiner --- The doctor that we see to have our flight physicals done.

A&P = Airframe & Powerplant Technician --- That is the fancy term for an aircraft mechanic.

Thanks, LAX, but that's not quite what I was asking about--I should have given a little more info. API in Toronto is advertising for "AME's" to work overseas, and I believe that they're referring to mechanics. Perhaps it stands for "Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering"?

API is also advertising for pilots and I'm wondering if they're reputable.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and Aircraft and Powerplant mechanic are the same thing. Kind of like ATP vs ATPL vs the old ATR (airline transport rating, not the airplane)I would think. Is API a crew leasing company or a crew finding company? Crew leasing usually take your hard earned cash each month while the latter find crews for companies for a one time finders fee, paid by the airline normally. Some will even 'find' pilots (and I assume AME's) for crew leasing companies, thus extending the line of middle-men taking a piece of your paycheque.

I don't know if they're crew finders or crew leasing. I haven't contacted them directly. There's some info from them on an employment intel thread: 'Pilot's for India to age 65,' or something similar. I was hoping someone on the board might have some experience with them. I've had a brush with a bogus crew recruiter which has made me pretty cautious.

I did not know API has an office in Toronto. Aviation Personnel International is based in New Orleans with an office in San Francisco. I would think this thread would probably get better response in the corporate or hiring news sections. I can't recall if there have been other threads on API here, but I know they have been discussed on Flightinfo (if you can wade through the other junk there).

Though I have not used them myself, I understand that Jan Barden is one of the premier headhunters for corporate aviation. If you can get on as one of her clients, you will have a powerful asset on your side.

One item of importance: she is a legitimate headhunter that does things the right way--you don't pay a dime other than flying to their interview. The company hiring covers all other expenses.

Here is her website:

(Disclaimer--I have been lurking on this board for a couple of years, but only tried to register a couple of months ago. After multiple attemps, I was finally able to register last week. I have no affiliation with API.)
