When you subtract those out you get less than 200 original ATP's issued for all of 2012.

I don't see where you getting those numbers from.
For original issuance there were 6,396. 5,973 by examiners (FAA designated examiner) and 319 by (FAA) inspectors. 104 were 'no test'. No clue what that column is for.
Using your example - issued minus examiner and minus inspector = 104 (the 'no test' number).

Nothing at all wrong with interviewing, but seriously (fellow pilots) the majors are on a tear hiring. Study, get interview prep help, don't shoot yourself in the foot by going overseas at this point.

If this is any indication of future trends...
We have a number of new hires returning home from the sand pit.
This is also the case at other majors.
Advice given by good people who were/are there:
Go to the sandpit to retire, or to acquire "heavy" time in pursuit of a lucrative Chinese contract.

That said, overseas jobs with reputable carriers may be the only source of relief for both a job and a route to command.
