Not in my experience....! There is a system in the US where you are not as vulnerable and you have options to bypass some of these arses with a chip on their shoulder..., yes! But to say that everyone is fair and non-judgmental at the legacies? I wouldn't go that far.
Nowhere did I say "...everyone is fair and non-judgmental...".
With 20+ years at a US legacy and 3 different carriers as an expat, I'll stand by my statement, and my experience.

Anytime any 'evaluation' is done subjectively, a 'Dumb Penguin' will decided it for you regardless of your ability and performance! A while ago, I had a captain who couldn't even turn on his speaker and mike on with the mask on when the instructor simulated rapid decompression. He had no clue how to turn the O2 to 100% either. Of course he didn't know how to get rid of (simulated) smoke from his mask. He was briefed later that if his partner didn't know how to work his mask/O2 today, in real life, everyone would've died. Well, the captain of course passed the PC!
(I am sure there are stories about FOs too, but you get my drift)

But the stories are no different than the ones I had to deal with here during reviews formulating a defense.
You hear things like "I rested my hand on the thrust lever and he failed me for that" when in reality it is just the tip of the iceberg and what's underneath it's not discussed by the trainee, the people who fail check rides always find a way to blame the system and the ones who are biased always present themselves as fair..!
People are people and it always comes down to attitude and interpersonal relationships anywhere in the world you might find yourself.

We always want to think that we have the exclusivity in fairness and correctness..., the conversation about training abroad is always based on biased against people from certain parts of the world or something personal..!

Dom;
It is rare that I have disagreed with you, and several years ago you were a beacon of light in the internet of negative posters regarding expat jobs. I thank you for that.
Due to political correctness, affirmative action, ALPA, etc, instructors and evaluators have had to learn to be very rules based at legacy US carriers. That doesn't mean that some aren't "dumb penguins", but you always be treated fairly. If you feel you have not been, you get to complain and your complaints will be heard. Worst case you get a recheck with a different instructor, and maybe and ALPA rep sitting in if you request it.
While this is abused more often than not, it is the state of training and checking in the US.
The positive effect for most of us is that we get treated fairly the first time. Even by DB's.
There are also some new benefits for the exact same reasons. 15 years ago the airlines had to start offering benefits to "domestic partners", including travel benefits. Somebody challenged it, and won, and now they have to offer benefits to what our airline calls "enrolled friends". If you are single, and, ahem, not "living an alternative lifestyle", we get to choose a "friend". This is all new for me this past couple of years.
As for the rest of working for a legacy.
ARGGGHHHHH.
Get me out of here. LOL

But I think we have dedicated enough time to a subject that will be viewed very subjectively in any light...!
