Apparently Cathay has the same un-written rule in coach.

Always briefed the cabin crew about Sunday flights from Riga to Stansted about limiting drink to the boozers. Problem is that most airlines pay commissions to their cabin crew for goods, including booze, sold whilst enroute. Airlines, worldwide, including SAS, encourage inflight sales. Some carriers overseas, can't comment on US carriers, are harsh on cabin crews that do not make monthly sales quotas. Pursers are demoted to normal cabin crew whilst some cabin crew are fired. Tough position to be in where most inflight sales are related to booze.
