Well it seems to me you like your job better then any other currently available to you. That's a good thing. You can only make your choice on what is available. Sidestepping to a 17 year captain at a big3 airline is not a job option for you so don't let it get you down. A new hire F/O is a possibility but it seems you don't want that job.

Somebody somewhere always has it better.

Staying motivated is the mindset that you can leave whenever you want in today's hiring world. You are picking what you want to do most.

At least that is what I tell myself to keep the nightmares away!

Regarding the most recent termination regarding expense reporting, I thought the union and company agreed to "progressive discipline"? Did that not happen in this case? I thought this was all spelled out, what happens to us with numerous expense issues over a rolling period of time.

The constant negotiations (Section 6, IBI, etc.) clearly have negative consequences.

It's a shame we didn't get the job done in 2015. It's hard to imagine a pathway to success now. The same players, the same game, the same politics and techniques. The circus is becoming rather nauseating. A lot of pilots are trying to tune it out.

I can see both sides of the recent firing over expense reports, and I will explain:

From the pilots point of view, being fired for expense reports is an absolute message trying to be sent by management that further drives the stake between the pilot group and management. It is an absurd action that the union has to spend time fighting. This a guy with a family, and 17 freaking years of service to NJA (don't know who it is, but I am assuming he has a family). It is a slap in the face and should show the group that management still doesn't give a flying crap about the men and woman who are on the front lines driving the metal and generating revenue.

From the management perspective, guys like this that get fired, usually have a laundry list of issues and things in their file. I assume the person fired is no different. We don't know the full story and all I have been fed from those still at NJA are rumors, nothing more.

This should show anyone on the outside looking in, pilot moral is so freaking low, people don't even want to do their expense reports because of the way they are treated by management. Expense reports are such a massive pain in the freaking butt, and it gives you money back that you spent out of your pocket so it is in your best interest to do it yet people still don't because there is nothing left at the end of a work week.

I feel for anyone with golden handcuffs, I am not sure how the pilot group finds motivation or happiness on the road but I hope you do. Nobody deserves to be miserable in their job.

The culture is starting to smell like when Hansel was pulling the puppet strings before he was canned.

I'm not willing to assume that about another pilot until I hear it from someone reputable. This guy could have been an A-Teamer for all we know. The only thing we do know is that he got canned (ostensibly) for a BS reason.

I’m only assuming that if he was truly fired for an expense report, that this is a repeat offense. I’m the farthest thing from an NJA cheerleader but you gotta really really really mess up to be fired, or have a past of habitual screw ups. Less you forget that I am the Uber master lol.

Yep. Making the pilot responsible for a bunch of charges done by somebody else at the home office with the card number. Then you get to play "real, no-show, or fraudulent" with every one of them. A total PITA.

Yup, and when somebody charges you wrong you have to spend hours and sometimes days fixing it. It’s terrible. One of the many things I don’t miss at all.

Yea there were a few hostages that were complete crap from the sound of it in 2015.

All you have to do is read the seniority list to see the dozens of bat crap crazy, loose cannon, repeat offending pilots that are still employed. Hell, one Phenom captain is credited with destroying a hotel room, at least 2 public verbal assaults, flying on questionable medication and several check ride failures, and he is still happily employed.
