Default Need a small favor from an active NJA Pilot

I need someone to check their company iPad and let me know what model it is. I'll explain below.

I'm inactive and since the new NJASAP message board went active I'm unable to post in any forum or even send PM's. Used to be I could post everywhere but the crew room. I don't want to bother the SOD about something this minor.

My Med LOA is about up and I'm soon going to have to return company hardware. I have a company iPad that I've had for about 4 or more years now. I don't think the company uses this model and I want to confirm that. I may see if IT will give me a good deal on it if they have no use for it and it can be unlocked and factory reset.

What my iPad says under "General>>About": iPad Air 2. Model # MH2M2LL/A

If this is indeed an old model I'll try to contact IT and see what they say. I just bought a new iPad for my stepdaughter and the basic 10.2" model is $329 at BestBuy. NJA return paperwork says $700 if I don't return the iPad but I think that's for a newer model. A renewed iPad with the same model # is $399 on Amazon.

Thanks

We upgraded a couple years ago, and the company was not allowing employees to purchase the old devices.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. There may not be a way to remotely unlock the iPads anyway. Was kind of hoping they'd just say "keep it" but I knew that was a long shot.

Airbear, last year after a tour that led into vacation, my best girl (who’s a germaphobe) put my company iPhone on the side of a wastebasket so she could get a wipe and clean it. Well it fell in, she forgot about it, and three weeks later when I went looking for it for work....well the collective freak out in the house was one for the ages. The look on her face when she realized what had happened was priceless! :0.

The company didn’t even bat an eye. They were like “no problem, happens all the time”...sent me a new phone, never charged me a dime.

Take that for what it’s worth...

LOL, still other than the web browser and facetime there's not much I could do with it. They have the iPad locked down 20 ways from Sunday.

About a month ago I dusted off my wife's 2012 Mac Mini which hadn't been turned on in 4 years. My Win10 rig needed a clean install.....again after some failed updates. So I decided to try out Mac OS Catalina. I like the Mac OS, much less hassle than Win10 once you get used to the file system. Now I'm looking at iMac's. I upgraded the Mini but the video output is lacking, can't even come close to running a pair of monitors at max res. I've always been a Windows/Android person but I may get lured over to the dark side and wind up with an iPad and iPhone. They integrate much better than say Android and Windows.

I left my ipad in the seat pocket of an airliner. Called company, they said happens all the time. Gave me a new one. I felt so horrible, I kept on it for 2 months trying to track it down. It ended up in a warehouse in Georgia. I was able to get phone numbers that most people can't get because I used to work for the airlines and still had connections. Long story short, I got it back and returned the one they gave me.

So, onto what your saying. When I was getting my new one from IT. They said, 9 times out of 10. It will be on ebay in a week or so. Cuz someone finds it and realizes its useless because of the lock down status. So they sell it on ebay. IT also said they get phone calls from the folks that bought it off ebay and they asked to unlock it. Of course, our IT department advises them they are in possession of stolen property and they are to send it back. So theres that.

I sent my stuff in earlier this week. I saw refurbished iPads same model as mine for $79 so no big deal.

Today is my last day with NJA. As an inactive pilot I used to be able to post on the NJASAP board everywhere but the crew room forum. Since the new message board went live in early February I can't post anywhere, can't even send PM's. It's just read only which sucks. I sent in a ticket and it's on the list they said. Won't matter now. I have good info on this Med LOA process I've gone thru that I could have shared but again not a huge deal since few are affected by it. And the Union Benefits Committee members know of me since I have the NJASAP Harvey Watt Plan and have been in touch with them.

I left my $2000 gaming laptop in the forward cabin on a company jet once. Didn't realize it until I had boarded my airline home. Called the company and got a message to the next crew who took it into the FBO for me. Had to pay $$$ for shipping but it was nice of the FBO to handle the return for me. After that incident I decided the laptop could take it's chances in my backpack which stayed in the cargo bin. 2nd Worst thing I lost was my Bose QC-15/U-Fly Mic combo. Left it in the case next to my seat on an airline. Reported it but never saw it again. Left my e-reader once but luckily I had my info on a label stuck to the back and while heading to my connecting flight I heard my name being paged and quickly realized what it was.

Enjoy your retirement Airbear. You always were a great poster on the old forum and on the company site. Tailwinds.
