it depends on the time of year and where you are based...Being based in PDK and on a 7 day schedule, I normally fly 20-25 hours a week. 4am shows are very typical.

You are correct it varies GREATLY. Some of it depends on schedule, aircraft (nextgen or not), season, and pure luck. Some weeks you will end up flying 8 hours a day everyday, some weeks you might sit on home standby the whole time. In over 4 years with the company I can count on one hand the time I've had 4 am shows. I would say the average early show is more like 6 or 7. But like I said, luck of the draw. Other schedules (like Monday start perhaps) might have a lot of 4 am shows on day 1. Pilot base also has a lot to do with it. I think the PSM guys get a lot more early shows than we do at PDK. Just be prepared for 4 am shows everyday, and you'll be happy every time you get to sleep in :)
In April we are transitioning to an 8 on 6 off schedule, with a few people staying on 7/7. All new hires will be 8/6. So you have 6 full days, cell phone off, not on duty.

Just wait till the summer, that's when the fun starts!

That's what I've heard! Can hardly wait..

I am on the dreaded Monday start as well as the NG and I see mostly shows prior to 0530 on day 1. I was excited last week when I had an 0800 show. I know guys who start later in the week though and they don't get as early shows on day 1.

Up in PSM they do routinely have a crew on airport standby and they generally come in for 0400 or 0500 depending on when the first flights are scheduled to go out that day.

The schedule is definitely wackier than a 121 for obvious reasons. But like it was said before, in the winter time especially you may find yourself at home a couple days in a row on call.

Is plansense hiring now? Any street captains? If not, how quick is the upgrade?

ftlwys 03-22-2012 09:28 AM

classes being held and interviews being conducted. upgrade time varies but would plan on at least a year or a little more, based on experience. starting FO pay 30k then a bump to 34k at six months. all new hires go to the 8/6 schedule

Thanks for the info. I have around 5,000TT. What do the captains make and any chance for a PDK base?
