I don't know when but Avantair will be buying Embraer Phenom 100 jets.
Anyone know why they would be adding a jet with the same service ceiling that only has 30 kts more speed with a smaller cabin and fewer seats than the Avanti? Why not something larger or faster?

Pilatapus,
Send the resume in, worst case is they will weed it out, best case, you will get a call. Be ready for the call.
My guess on why the Phenom was selected has two parts.
First; the Phenom fits the VLJ market that Avantair currently serves. The Phenom is half the cost of a P180 and will allow entry into the market place of fractional flying at a lower income range.
Second; It would align Avantair with an aircraft manufacture whose selection of aircraft cover many markets. And whose aircraft are proven performers in the regulated world of aviation, ie Part 135 and Part 121.
Just my thoughts on the topics, others will have their opinions. I haven't heard or seen anything official yet.

actually, Avantair had Premiers and nearly all the owners preferred the piaggio to the jet. Most of em still do which is why they bail out of Netjets or chartering beechjets and just love the P180. You gotta realize that with the Avanti the only real or (perceived) advantage a jet has to the people in the back is EGO and a little bit of speed. I ran some people from the east coast to Columbus ohio for a ball game. As we were taking off a hawker 800 was taxing to the runway. He landed 30 minutes ahead of us, woulda been less but ATC dropped us to let him over the top. We flew 2.5 he flew 2.0 all to move the same size cabin the same distance and his owner spent well over 4 times the money to do it.

And, as a pilot you get to fly some nice equipment on a super-wide variety of routes/layovers from many different domiciles. Sounds like a great deal to me. And those Embraer Phenom 100s look like they will be fun to fly too when they eventually get on the line. I would say growth prospects at Avantair look a lot better than at the other fractionals if you want to get to the left seat of a high performance aircraft sooner than later...
