Upgrades

What is the current estimate for upgrades at Net Jets these days?

Very hard to say. I don't see how it could be any less than 3.5 - 4 yrs. Since NJA history keeps the PIC/SIC ratio right at 2:1, it depends on the rate of guys retiring ahead of you, which has been low, (Remember, no mandatory retirement ages w/part 91/135), the rate of folks being hired behind you and the number of cockpits added (pretty big increases coming). I was hired in July '06 and my best estimate is a total of 3 yrs for me to get captain in anything. That's just assuming the same attrition rate of those senior to me and the predicted hiring numbers rumored. The time frame increases slightly with every new class.

Thanks for the update on upgrades..... What are the chances this new TA will be approved by the pilots in your opinion? Does the vote end Nov. 20th? Just trying to figure out when we might know what the results are....

I got an email from my union peer rep saying they expected the vote count to be announced by Dec 1. I keep seeing the Nov 20 date too. That may be about when the ballots will be due. As far as the chance of this passing, I think it will. By how much, I have my opinion, but I won't post it here so as not to create any discussions that get the thread off track. I will say that what was negotiated correlates pretty well with what the results of the pilot survey said, which is one reason I think this will pass.

I haven't been around long enough to even start to predict that one. Looks pretty evenly divided among those who post on the union message board, but that's only a fraction of the total pilot group. You can bet that most of the 600 or so post-contract FO's will be voting yes, but there are around 2700 pilots on the seniority list. I think the union leadership's upcoming roadshow regarding the new TA will sway a good many fence-sitters and some "No"s to the "Yes" side. I don't think the union leaders would have presented the agreement if they didn't think they could get at least 80% to vote for it. Fifty-one percent could get the TA passed, but it would be very devisive for the pilot group.

That date sounds correct. Seems like they said the vote would be counted on the 20th, and if passed, the new agreement would take effect 21 Nov.

How's about posting the Scope section for those of us without access to crewops or the union board?

GeeWiz,
There's not a section on scope, per se. Tried to PM you the section on duration, which has the only provisions that seem to be written with an NJA/NJI merger in mind, but it looks like you don't have enough posts to receive a PM yet. I don't really think I should post it on an open forum. Just post a couple more times and I'll send it to you.

The actual scope section appears unchanged from the '05 CBA. The 85% Int'l flying clause does not take effect until 2013.

My impression is that the union and management will negotiate an NJA/NJI merger long before the 85% rule forces it and probably before the single-carrier petition goes to the NMB in the fall of 2008. Keeping the merger low key and not associated with any labor dispute in the eyes of the media appear to be the current goal. The virtual seniority list of the merged company is under review as we speak and should be finalized by the end of the month.

Are you an NJI guy?

Any ex-ASA types over there that might help a girl out? This place sounds better, and better, all the time!!
