What is frustrating is the wait of 4 weeks. I think they know that day or shortly thereafter whether or not they are gonna hire you. A quick call would be awesome. We dont need fleet assignments or class dates when you call. Just call to say we are in.....pending background checks and such. That would be my only minor complaint.

Anybody know what happens to your app when you send in the "application/resume update form"?? Does it help? Does it go into a magic pile for a fresh look?
And another thing: I didn't put much-- if any-- info on my application in the Community Service or Professional Organizations/ Clubs blocks of the app. I've been a pilot for the military for the last 14 years and honestly haven't done much else. I've been selfishly spending my free-time for ME.
Are Scoutmasters, Masons, Elks, church-leaders, etc. getting a better look in the process?
Not knocking any of those-- I hope to participate in such things myself once out of the AF!
And lastly, the Computer/ Software experience block: I certainly know how to use all the basic stuff: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. but I left it blank since I really wouldn't consider myself an expert at any of them.
I'm screwed aren't I?

I wouldn't say screwed Roadking. Just mention how you had the opportunity to encourage the youth of America to serve in the Armed Forces. It wouldn't be a lie because fighting for the freedom of others is the most honorable thing you can do. Every time you strap on your airplane you're encouraging someone.
Talk about the time they had 'family day' at your wing and you explained what it was like to fly in the AF. Or just mention how you can't wait to get more involved in certain charities/events once your commitment is over.
Good luck bro.

I have 4 NJ friends that will send a letter of rec in. Is it better to wait until I get a letter of acknowledgment that they received the app, or just send it all in? I figure a letter of rec isnt much good if they havnt even seen your app yet.
Any thoughts?

Send them in. I know someone who never got a letter of acknowledgment.

As things progress, you may want to get them to send "refresher" emails to Derinda along the way. Any updates to your quals would not hurt either. Anything to get your name in front of the people who offer the interviews.

I next-day aired the app. March 13. Received the email this morning that my application was received, and then received another email two hours later inviting me to come interview. I'm seriously shocked that it happend that fast. Just to give us low time guys hope, I barely exceed the mins.... So I guess the point is, if you meet the mins, shoot 'em an application. I'm looking forward to the interview, and maybe if i'm lucky, getting the opportunity to work for a great company.
Good Luck to everyone else out there.
