Any insight into how bases are picked? How hard would it be to start off in PIE?

THANX

EV is ASA (Atlantic Southeast Airlines.) I understand the frustration with the regionals, but examine your reasons for leaving. If you are in first or second year...then it's probably an alright move, albeit a lateral one. The financial side is a wash. You probably will not be any better off at one over the other.
QOL. I made the move to fractional last year. I love it, butI went to NetJets so the money will eventually work out. Schedule is nicer because your 7 off at home is a lot of time off. Very productive. You get treated better at fractionals. If Avantair is not your career goal, then it will look better on your resume if you stick it out where you are.

Each one of us has to decide what is important to us. If Avantair is more than just another stepping stone for you, then I think you will be happy over there.

TimSmith: Thanks for the good words of advice. If I had the chance to get to NetJets, it would be a no brainer. The QOL at Avantair is 7/7 is that seems to be a wash there in terms of the fractional lifestyle. Pay for sure is about the same (I'm a 2nd year at ASA) but of course its the travel privileges that I would be missing out on. With all the cuts in capacity, its ridiculous anyways, but those international flights would be missed. =(

I'm not sure where I see AvantAir, as to whether it is just a stepping stone or an end all, but rather, I'm looking to hopefully make it an end all. Going into anything though that optimistic just sort-of lines you up for disappointment, but then again, I always try to spin things into a positive. As one captain told me to the tune of,"There isn't any reason to be negative in this industry unless you just want to be miserable your entire career." I made it my own motto these days.

Actually, the 7/7 is a great schedule! So much better than what ASA gives you and at least at NetJets, I don't know about Avantair, you can answer your phone on a day off. If you are deep in your second year at ASA I might be tempted to stay for the upgrade and get the 1000 PIC turbine. Of course I don't know what upgrade at Avantair is either. You may like the fractional life well enough to make the financial lateral move. QOL will be better at Avantair, I can almost gaurantee it.

There are plenty of reasons to be negative, but they all end up being unhappy so there's not much point. Another saying is, "The day you realize if you made the correct choices in this industry is the day you retire and look back."

Good Luck!

If you can look back and say "I made all the correct choices", Don't think it was because you were so smart. You were one very lucky dude. No one has a crystal ball.
