Default Monkey Bid-Ness

I figure flying is nothing but monkey business. We can teach the monkeys to fly the airplanes, given enough time and money, but we can't teach the average monkey to get along with the other monkeys. So, I figure all I've got to do in an interview is demonstrate that I can get along with a bunch of underdevloped primates. Should be easy given all that time I spent in the Navy, runnin with the Marines.

GPA should be a non issue, I don't want it on my resume, that gives me the chance to work it into the discussion phase of the interview, when I want to talk about it. If you have really good grades, you can use it to demonstrate your drive and intensity etc.. If you have poor grades, you can chalk it up to youthful immaturity, and how you have been focused in your professional life ever since, unless of course youare a recent grad

Several companies have required copies of college transcripts be brought to the interview. Bottom line, be ready to explain everything in your past not just grades, good or not so good, it is all about the ability to spin it.

All it is is a way to accentuate something about you on your resume. It might catch the eye of one HR person, another may just simply dismiss it without any thoughts either way.

Also, what if they guy never failed a check ride, but needed additional OE but that question is never asked? Does that still merit him a "4.0 in something that matters to us". What if the guy went through an AQP program and never "failed" a checkride but required additional training. It's not a pink slip, would that still warrant a "4.0 in something that matters to us"?. What if guy failed a ground school test (yes, it happens) and had to take it AGAIN? No pink slip, it's not a failed check ride, does that warrant a "4.0 in something that matters to us"? What if a guy screwed something up and got some time off for it, but the question was never asked whether he has been suspended or disciplined, does that warrant a "4.0 in something that matters to us"?

"dig"?

And NO, we don't need to have that old, stale, worn out multi page thread about whether or not college makes you a better pilot or not.
Are you trainable. College proves very little about if someone is trainable. All college proves is that you can complete a goal and memorize something and have some reasonable problems solving ability.

Ill trade a 2000 hour ATP freight dog with no college degree as my FO anytime over a 500 hour Multi Commercial, PHD of aviation who has failed a checkride.

I wasn't arguing with you, only pointing out some of the silly things that employers ask for. If they ARE going to ask for them, whatever a guys does to accentuate the positives is his own choice.

What a weird coincidence, so does taking multiple FAA written exams or the airlines systems/FOM exams. Also, I said we DON'T have to have the discussion about how college relates to pilot ability. Some of the things I pointed out could point to a deficiency in how well somebody is able to be trained, but NEVER asked in an interview.

Hi!

What does your GPA have to do with you're flying?

For NJA, especially, the question is irrelevant.

Flying is a small part of the job. Customer service is KING, which includes the client, obviously, but also getting along with the crew, ops, etc.

If you have a 4.0, it is unusual. The smarter you are (or the dumber), the more unusual you are. It is better, especially for a huge customer service job like NJA, to be more normal, as it means it is easier for you to interact more "normally" with other people.

So, if the above guy is just as good as me, and he has a 4.0, and I have a 2.8, I get the job, because I am more normal.

I think the above sucks, because I am smarter than average, which hurts me sometimes.

Too bad for me.

PS-Each company runs their recruiting the way they want to. Some do "weird" things, but it's their perogative, as it's their company. If you get turned down, don't take it personally, just keep trying!!!

LOL, good point. I never did understand why SW interviews 8 X more people than they plan to hire. Seems like its a big waste of money and time.
