Just thought I'd throw this out there for some commentary.

I know a guy who recently interviewed at NJA and he felt the interview went very well, he also said the sim went well and he had 3 good letters of rec from NJA pilots. Turns out he didn't get the job.

He said the only part of the interview he didn't feel comfortable about was when the guy interviewing him acted a little weird that he got straight As in college, and asked him a couple questions about it.

I got straight As in college and I'm still a real personable, fun guy. This makes me wonder, can this possibly be a BAD thing to have on your resume?

Seems pretty messed up to me and he should be getting Kudos instead.

 

Highly doubt that had anything to do with it. However I would say if I person got straight A's, had no check ride failures, and no speeding tickets - then I would think something is up with them. (can't think of the term I'm looking for there)

More than likely the interviewers didn't like something about him. Or the interview didn't go as well as he though.

 

So does my 2.1 GPA make me a shoe-in for the job? Sweet!

 

In my opinion grades have nothing to do with how well you fly an airplane or interact with people.

 

People have "good interviews" and not get the job. It happens all the time, it happens everywhere. That's why you should never turn down a good job just because it isn't your dream job. You never know how an interview is gonna go.

 

"Way back when" I helped a fellow CFI do his resume in preparation for his first instructing job. I told him to prepare what HE thought his resume should look like, with all of his facts and whatnot and when I came over we would work from that.

This guy was beyond straight A's. I had seen him routinely call-out professors on things they were teaching, and he was always right. His downfall was that he was in LOVE with his own intelligence and everyone who crossed paths with him saw it instantly.

So I show up at his place, and I said "Alright, let's have a look at that resume." and was I to see the first thing that came after his name was his IQ.

No matter how good his grades are, he's struggled with "getting the job" for as long as I've known him because he lacks the ability to be humble.

 

WOW........that's bad, actually that's really bad....He needs to delete that. The HR people will exploit that, they look for things like that.

 

Trying to convey your intellegence within your resume is like saying your laid back and standard in your Crew Breifing.

 

To Shortbus Drivers friend. Keep in contact with HR and ask what was the weak area of the interview. This way if still interested in NJ, you can re-apply in 6 months.
