There is a law dictating that they are there for safety.
There is no law dictating that they are there for service.
Now for the company to get there 'worth' out of you - and the fact that flying of yesteryear was a classy endeavor - service obviously became part of the job; thank goodness even a majority of the job; but that doesn't mean that is the PRIMARY reason they are there.
From a government source - the Bureau of Labor Statics:

Just another way for management to be cheap and expect employees to be happy.
Hey, why not tip your doctor? He (or she kept you alive)
Tip your kids teacher, maybe your son wont end up in jail!
Tip your priest for not victimizing your kid!
Really, it just cheapens a profession, where will it end?

Are you suggesting they're equals in their education?
I can understand the argument of not tipping a flight attendant as management would use this as a reason to not pay their worker, but your argument makes no sense.

Sorry, I fail to see the similarities between a profession that takes multiple years of training, education and a job that takes 5-7 weeks to learn.

A person in a government mandated position of authority working for tips. Maybe the TSA should look into allowing tipping....

The tip option has been on their devices since around 2016. This is old news, but it is pretty ridiculous. This moves the responsibility to adequately compensate the FA from the company to the customer. It has nothing to do with extra money for good service. It’s just shady bottom-feeding business tactics.
