Default Flying Unicorns! Management*

I heard recently that upper management reached out to our union to see if they could “rally the troops!” Because after 3 years of management doing everything in their power to spit in the face of pilots (delaying contracts, unnecessarily canceling vacations, etc) all is forgiven after we signed a bottom of industry contract, right?! I have to confirm but I heard the union told the company had a long way to go providing gestures of good faith before the union would even consider meeting them halfway on any “rally the troops” effort.

Between this ignorant management request and that equally disconnected/moronic letter from Barry, the idea of being on “Team Frontier” makes me want to vomit.

To management: You have a long road ahead to repair the 3 years of damage to my professional and personal life. It wasn’t just about the money, it was that combined every other little thing you could do to *friend* us along the way. You started this fight with pilots by blatantly lying to us about your financials, while talking out the other side of your mouth to media about the immense profits you were enjoying. We started out with an incredibly honest and average offer, which you countered with offers so ridiculous they were meant to purposely anger our pilot group. In the years that have ensued my family has got caught in crossfire has you continued your campaign to demoralize our pilot group. Giving me half of what you owe me and the least amount of money you could stomach in a new contract won’t suffice, so Flying Unicorn, Management! I can’t wait til the price of fuel returns to high levels, you’re going to enjoy the fuel bill.

That's a hard *like*. Agree fully.

I am surprised the union reacted like that to the company's request. Most of MEC certainly wasn't shy about accepting management's Incentivised generosity while that was going down.

Don't take it so personally. It's just business.

It's not healthy to get so emotionally upset. Don't let them have that much control over you.

Yeah, the company is an extremely labor unfriendly group of cold hearted businessmen. We all know that. But the fact is we have more job security and higher pay than we ever had with previous management teams.

Relax. Just do your job, go home and enjoy your life

There was a time when I respected your opinion, Aero. Unfortunately you have become the battered house wife of this forum. You can try to straighten your dress and douse make-up over your bruises, but you took a beating just like the rest of us. The difference between you and me is that I’m not going to repress the last 3 years of bad behavior by this management. They have to complete the 12 step program before I lift the restraining order. I would say I’m happy for you, but I’m not; that you can simply move on because you can rationalize their behavior as “just business.” They made it personal by purposely and quantifiably making their employees miserable both at and away from work, to say otherwise is just plain foolish.

+1

Also, the 12 step program:

1) employee profit sharing
2) pay us the $1000 bonus that nearly every other airline paid its employees after the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act
3) come to the table with a good faith offer to the FA’s and settle their contract
4) pay for new hires’ hotels so we can recruit the best
5) increase new hire pay to the max allowable by the contract BEFORE it’s too late when recruiting starts to inevitably slip (see step #4)
6) increase staffing so we actually have a CHANCE at D0
7) don’t repeat the mistakes of last summer with gross over-utilization
8)
9)
10)
11)
12)

It’s a work in progress because I honestly don’t know if it can be repaired.

“Don't take it so personally. It's just business.

Sorry sir but beating and raping the group that provides revenue for your organization is not “just business”.

It is outside of all ethical and moral standards other than demons and masons.

But don't let it eat you up inside.

Best to treat it as business, in a calculating manner. Balance the books, but in a rational manner. More effective and less harmful to your own emotional state.

If you can't quite manage that, you know what they say about revenge being best served cold...

I'm so sorry to hear that my recommendation to enjoy your life is not respectable.

I get that the company played the game very rough. I realize that some of our pilots suffered through the process (cancelled vacations, section 13 hearings), but its just part of the game. Indigo plays very rough, no doubt. You can be angry all you want, and I understand that, but at some point you should try and not take it so personally. It is just business, like it or not. This stuff isn't unusual or specific to Indigo.

Read up on the history of union busting in this country. Read up on Boeing building a factory in Charleston, SC. That's some union busting action right there. This stuff isn't specific to us. Not at all.

And remember, our union and pilots played the game too. We warned the public not to book tickets on us because we were about to strike. We picketed at the airport to scare away our own customers. We burned as much gas as possible. We sat with both engines and the APU running while waiting for gates. We taxied and flew slow to purposely over block flights. We actively tried to stop pilots from applying here. So don't pretend like we were perfect little angels. It's a game. It's just business.

So where does this all leave us? Well, the company agreed to a deal that 77% of us voted yes on. That would be the vast majority of our pilot group being satisfied. The company gave us a 50% pay raise and a $75,000,000 check.

At some point you just have to move on and let the anger go. Or not. You can just be a miserable, grumpy guy that everyone hates flying with. You can take out your anger on your family and co workers.

Call me a battered wife all you want, but I'm choosing to enjoy my life. You only live once. You can hold a long, bitter, angry grudge against the company if you want, but I don't see how that will benefit you. What's done is done. We overwhelmingly agreed to this contract.

I don't know man, just my thought. You are free to be that grumpy guy and hate your job if you want, but that's not how I'm going to live my life.

Got to go! I better get back to the kitchen before Indigo beats me again!
