It would be that bad if you're in base and flying 35 hours a month total.

Are they picking up straight Open time? Or trips that someone posted? If they’re getting used every RSV day and then picking up OT on days off…jeez.

Now If they’re only getting called in half the time, and then picking up an easy trip someone posted for pickup, that makes more sense. Someone is trying to get a couple days off, reserve guy is off and wants to pick up a little extra flying. Mutually beneficial. Seven days off on paper, but maybe not getting called a day or two each block. That’s the only way I’d be inclined to pick up flying.

Usually straight open time trips. Adding trips on your reserve day off at F9, is a nice benefit but when you start with only 12 days off it doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room. I’m a junior line holder, so the flying I’m doing is red eye type flying. I live in base and I’ve done plenty of reserve. I would still never add flying on a hard day off. I value my time differently. Reserve is a crap shoot, one week they might not use you. The next they use you for five days straight. I occasionally broke guarantee on reserve, but couldn’t imagine doing some useless red eye trip after being jerked around for five days. To each his own I guess.

Yeah I wish we had more than 12 days off... I swear every OT trip or premium trip is on a day im sitting reserve.

imo, I have been used an average of about 4-5 days a month the last 6 months, its been nice.

Yeah I’m already not into picking up OT, for a variety of reasons (I want to enjoy my time off, don’t want to throw a bone to the company/morality of picking up OT, etc). It’s one thing if I had a stretch of 4 days off, nothing really going on at home, and someone posts a nice little 2 day. 12-15 extra hours goes a long way in the bank. The other guy wanted a couple days off, I was willing to go make a little extra money, saved him from a callout, one less trip a reserve has to fly.

If min duty got changed to min daily 5 (or shoot for the moon, ask for 6, wouldn’t hurt…) and then reserve also got bumped up to 5. That’s pretty simple math. 15 days at 5 hours, still guaranteed 75. Would be pretty nice.

...so you're against picking up open time?

I second this question. You’re gonna have to elaborate on that a bit broccoli.

A professional pilot asking another to elaborate about that on a public forum. If he has to tell you, it isn’t worth saying. For the love of god, pilot culture is a thing of the past.
