I fly with a lot of new hires that brag about crediting 90-100 hours. All while having 5-7 hard days off for the month. But they are getting that money!
Now If they’re only getting called in half the time, and then picking up an easy trip someone posted for pickup, that makes more sense. Someone is trying to get a couple days off, reserve guy is off and wants to pick up a little extra flying. Mutually beneficial. Seven days off on paper, but maybe not getting called a day or two each block. That’s the only way I’d be inclined to pick up flying. |
Usually straight open time trips. Adding trips on your reserve day off at F9, is a nice benefit but when you start with only 12 days off it doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room. I’m a junior line holder, so the flying I’m doing is red eye type flying. I live in base and I’ve done plenty of reserve. I would still never add flying on a hard day off. I value my time differently. Reserve is a crap shoot, one week they might not use you. The next they use you for five days straight. I occasionally broke guarantee on reserve, but couldn’t imagine doing some useless red eye trip after being jerked around for five days. To each his own I guess.

I second this question. You’re gonna have to elaborate on that a bit broccoli.
