Friend of mine hired out of the regionals with barely the mins, and actually about 60 hours short the multi-time requirement. Convinced them he would have the mins by the time he showed for class. They were fine with it.

I actually begged him not to interview until he had the time. He talked with the recruiter ahead of time and went to the interview and was hired.

Unfortunately this is the strategy Pilot Recruitment has swallowed.....impulsive nil airmanship & judgement flim flammers.........I’m sure when one of them bends a Jet because a reserve Captain is yawning after 6 consecutive days of yawning that all involved (Recruitment, silver bullets, all enabling this direction and silencing the figurative CRC) made happen, same gang will scramble away from the inquiries...........

Lowest common denominator in a error chain is apathy, or ignorance........imho

Hours are necessarily everything. Ive flown with some pretty horrible 8000 hour pilots and on the other hand have flown with some amazing 2000 hour pilots. Hell I had a 20 year ex-TSA CA as my FO the other day that was one of the worst pilots I have flown with.

Exactly. There are some pretty sharp low-time guys out there. Couple this with the hours that will come in time, and very well rounded pilots they will be.

I don't think it's reasonable to stereotype them "flim flammers" Prettywhacked. I'd be more concerned with a low-time guy who struggles in training and then has an attitude problem when CA's try to give some pointers. (which admittedly I've heard has been a bit a problem lately )

I remember when I was new on every airplane I've ever transitioned to, whether at regionals or F9, I learned everything by accepting pointers and criticism humbly, and asking questions.

If a low-time guy shows up on time, works hard for you, has the MEL's pulled up for you ahead of time, and comes to F9 with some life experience to make conversation interesting, I think you'll be more than happy to coach em up Prettywhacked, and if you're not well that says more about you than the low-time guy you can't stand.

Thread revival.

I'm a mil pilot with a R-ATP. Not quite at 1500 total and don't have 500 PIC (lots of time spent behind a desk in my career). Been eyeing regionals but considering doing something else like caravans first to get the PIC minimums and best build my resume for an interview one day. Anyone know if these are hard limits that have to be surpassed for HR to review your app? Any advice is also welcome. Thanks in advance.

Very unlikely, considering those out on the street nowadays. Though, you cannot win if you don't play. I know several guys applying with over 4000hrs, perfect records, multiple types, and an internal recommendation that are not being considered.
