Furlough

BB just sent out a letter saying a reduction of 35% of pilots and FA’s will a happen as early as Oct 1

Not really accurate. He said notices would be sent to up to 35% of pilots and FA. Nothing firm about the percentage of notices, let alone the actual furloughs.

True, it's a worse case plan, but it's feeling pretty "worse case" now. I hope the union can reach a deal.

500 pilots could (not will) get furloughed. Say 200 take the long term leave (this better be a good offer ) 300 could (again not will the picture changes daily) get furloughed.

If they do get furloughed, given the domestic market is coming back first and everyone is watching their bottom lines, I am thinking any type of furlough will be short lived. Plus it is incredibly easy for us to re train and re upgrade if we have too. Single fleet sims everywhere and firm orders still coming in.

There are other ways they can save money. I said months ago that a furlough would happen, and I still believe some will unfortunately be furloughed. Hopefully not for too long, and hopefully not as many as are getting notices. It isn't what the company wants to do, but it is what they will do to keep it alive.

1 top captain cola saves at least 2 first year fo (roughly depending on the numbers). It’s not a 1 for 1. Not even close. It’s about saving x amount of cash. Think of it in those terms. I agree with your second paragraph.

I’d like to know how many of those at HQ are on the chopping block. How many executives who have deferred parts of their salaries will be in line with us in unemployment. I guess we won’t outgrow our HQ now. Trimming the fat at the top with no golden parachutes would be a first.

Fcoolaid -

Very good point brother.

I would be very surprised if they offer the current COLA past Sept. the only reason it was around now was because of the CARES ACT. It saved the company 30% off payroll that the feds already financed. Going forward the best case LOA would probably be keep medical benefits for 3-6 months. W/o pay.

and please... from a guy who is almost a guaranteed furlough...ABSOLUTELY NO CONCESSIONS!! I don’t care about my paycheck for the next year I care about my paycheck for the next 20! You guys took far too much abuse to get this contract! Don’t let them hold us hostage for promises they won’t keep anyway. I will take the furlough with a little cringe... but I would have a very hard time coming back to a gutted contract.

Your first scenario would not save as much as a reasonable long term cola. Furloughing off the bottom saves the least amount possible. Why would the company turn down saving in a time like now? I’m expecting some medium/longer term cola deal with the ability to recall in a short period of time. They will also need to comply with sec 23. That’s the whole playbook without concessions. Credit caps, lower line values, reduced res lines (aka JetBlue). let’s not start public negotiations till we hear what the plan is.
