Maybe it's time for crews to just start ripping their bags out of their hands and throwing them on the seats.

They absolutely need to start fining people who bring their bags down the slides. At least put them on the no fly list for the future.

Crews have done that before. Had an FA in my crashpad years ago who told me about an evacuation due to an engine fire and smoke in the cabin. She said they were throwing passenger's bags all over the place and almost pushing people down the slides. I saw pictures of the cabin, it looked like a bomb went off.

there should be an automatic locking mechanism that locks bins below 10,000ft. Make it impossible for bins to open.

It’s possible that was their exact intent, making it an act of terrorism. They were not on that runway by accident.
