This was all I had heard they were planning on having in the November class. The sims are backed up with FOs that have to complete their type ratings by the end of the year.

Yes, sims and classrooms are full; thanks to a large upgrade class as well.

Polarized glasses

Here's something off topic, how does the airbus do with prescription sunglasses that are polarized? Im a new-hire and looking at getting some prescription Ray-Ban sunglasses. Anyone have experience with this particular brand in the bus? Currently waiting on OE so I haven't been able to test my normal sunglasses...

I just finished IOE and I bought a cheap pair of non-polarized glasses in between my two trips. The screens aren't too bad, but I couldn't see outside at all. It was bad enough that I didn't wear them the entire first trip. Good luck on IOE!!!

I'm not sure what the problem was? Maybe you bought too cheap?

I think you need non polarized sunglass just as you do in any glass cockpit airplane.

Is anyone aware of how far out new hire classes are planned for 2016, and how many are in each class?

Just interviewed Wed. HR said 7 in Jan 14 in FEb then pick back up.

Is there word on how many they plan on upgrading per month for the year of 2016?

There's a vacancy for 5 ORD and 5 MCO captains closing on Nov. 17th, but it's not effective until the end of March 2016. So I'd say 2016 is off to somewhat of a slow start for upgrades.

Slow indeed. That's a bummer. I flew with one of our higher ups in the training dept just a few weeks ago, and he said the company wanted 14 upgrades a month. I liked his idea better. What's the point of running one so far ahead of time? Is that the norm usually?

Aero1900 11-06-2015 08:48 AM

I was told by the folks in the chief pilots office that they will be an average of 10 upgrades per month in 2016.

Don't be fooled by the upgrade effective date. They are always well into the future of when training begins. The October 12 upgrade class had an effective date of the end of December.
