Overall you will find that this is an extraordinary pilot group that are very welcoming and friendly.

Agree with this 100%!!

I imagine in the case of a strike, new hires in training would be expected to leave training? And new hires with class dates would not show up to class on the first day? Or would they do day one of indoc so that they are officially employees and then join the picket line, getting fired and then rehired?

My personal opinion, I could be wrong but I don’t think ALPA would expect anyone to leave training. Ground school and SIMS do not create revenue for the company. For the guys on IOE, I’d venture to bet that you would not have an IOE instructor available for training. Either way, at that point, you would be expected to hold the line and stay home. Any probationary pilots fired during this time will be rehired after the strike. ALPA is very adamant that ALL pilots come back or none of us. If it is your intent to move on to a legacy carrier, consider it a badge of honor. I highly doubt any pilot on a hiring committee would frown upon you holding the line. If anything, it could help your chances.

The training center would shut down. Any GS or sim instructors conducting training would be considered scabs.

I think initial GS is taught by a non pilot.

I was in new-hire training with the Union Pacific Railroad when after a few days one of the crafts went on strike. They stood at all the entrances to the rail yard and turned every one of us around when we showed up for class. Legally I don't think they could block the entrance, but after you rolled your window down and got an earful, you weren't about to keep going. It only lasted a day or two.

This is a fact and he is a fantastic instructor. Not sure what status he'd go into or what the folks in ground school would do. Anyone?

Yep, great instructor and a very standup guy.

Said GS instructor is moving on. Suckage for us but hopefully great things for a great guy.
