I don’t think this is as bad the XJT/ASA wind down. For starters G7 is still gaining planes and in all honestly this will help the staffing issue. It’s also worth noting these are the oldest 700s in active service.

The 7 CG9's are subleased from Delta.

25 United 700s
22 Delta 700s
7 900s flown for Delta, that belong to G7.

United has now promised them 54 of the 550s, including converting the 700s that they already fly for them.
So, even if Delta pulls ALL of the (20) remaining 700s that they have with them, G7 would still be at 61 planes, which would be net growth.

And, who knows what Delta will do? I'm not convinced even Delta knows. If they leave any of those 20 planes there....and United delivers on the 550s they've promised, that's more growth for G7....assuming they can crew the planes.

Opps, my post was truncated.

As far as I know, GJ and United have still not signed an agreement, just a letter of intent.

Could this have been a test to see if new planes would mean GJ could recruit more pilots?

If GJ's recruiting does not improve will they not do the deal? If GJ's numbers improve a bunch, will they do a bigger deal?

They'll probably still do the deal if Delta pulls its planes. You'll have the pilots for it, at least.
