Skywest Acquiring 21 CRJ-550s
#31
Anyway. Twelve months ago, yeah sure they’d be in upgrade so quick and then that CA longevity would kick in. In the left seat it starts to become additive (former experience plus current Skywest experience) after they upgrade, but in this environment they’d effectively be capped at 8 year FO rates for a very long time. Based on the most recent bid it looks like the most junior ERJ upgrade went to 3.5-4 years seniority, and most junior was around 45-48% overall pilot seniority.

Not quite. Coming straight from our policy manual, it would be closer to half of that. Anyone, whether a former CA or former FO, comes in at the bottom of the seniority list as a new hire FO. Yes, They are eligible for the longevity pay of up to 10 years. But they’d be at FO rates, and the FO pay scale stops at 8 years. As of now, that’s $61 and some change for an 8 year FO. Being at the bottom of the list, they’d have to work their way up in seniority to be eligible to upgrade. It used to be pretty quick, if you had prior 121 time. Now it’s going to be slow, since presently no CRJ training is being conducted company wide, for ERJ>CRJ transitions or any CRJ upgrades at all. Focus is on ERJ, and it’s always been senior.

Right, I was just being realistic since that deal would never come to fruition, not even in the last few years when they were hiring as many people as they could fit in a classroom and simulator slot.

My agenda and I agree. HK is not going to take the chance of trying to run an airline when he can grab a bunch of money and run. He is structuring his exit. If the GJ guys get to go to Skywest they will come out way ahead, even if they start at the bottom of the seniority list but keep their seats. Skywest gives up to 10 years of longevity so a 10 year GJ pilot would make about 115 per hour at Skywest and could probably get 110 hours of pay per month.
Problem is SW did not do well taking over Expressjet. They won't take over GJ in a way that keeps GJ as it is. There would have to be an advanced agreement.

Dude.... there is no way that G7 guys “get to go to Skywest”.
Skywest now owns a large portion of the airframes that G7 flies.
It makes absolutely no sense for OO buy G7 much less take any of their pilots.
There will be no staple, no keeping of seats, no 110 hrs of pay per month.
IF ( and this won’t happen either) OO starts flying 550’s after G7 goes bankrupt, they would already own the airframes and have a surplus of already qualified CRJ pilots that wouldnt require much training to add one more variant to training.
And no I don’t think UA gives Mesa a shot at the 550 because they don’t have the liquidity to convert 700s to 550s. Read through the Mesa Q3 earnings report. Their credit lines are maxed out and they can’t even find a lender to give them a loan to finance the delivery of the 20 175’s they have planned for delivery.
Mesa 550’s is a non-starter.
Realistically, G7 goes away, UA gives air Wisconsin a shot at running them, and Skywest who now owns like... 40ish 550’s? .... leases them to the newly minted AW 550 program.

How do you know I'm not a Dudette? You are probably right but being right might make for a boring thread. G7 is going under but they are the only ones who know how to fly the plane. Yes, its a 700 but there are a few differences. Plus the SW people are incredibly nice and would welcome the G7 people to the bottom of their list with seat protection and longevity pay. If the G7 pilots do get the chance to go to SW I hope they won't do what the Experessjet guys did and fight the opportunity all the way until the end in the name of the Union.
1) Context.. dude is genderless and no one cares what genitalia you have
2) ok so you’re trolling, thanks for setting that straight.
3) which is why we have “differences training”
4) do you live in Oregon? You must be taking advantage of the new narcotics laws. OO will never buy G7 bc, if for any other reason, OO does not want G7’s pilots. AW? Maybe. Atlas? Maybe.. Mesa? Probably, they’ll take anyone.
