Default Instrument question

So we all know that part of maintaining instrument currency involves completing a minimum of 6 instrument approaches in the preceeding 6 months. My question relates to logging said approaches in accordance with regs.

Are you required to log that you flew 6 approachs and list where they were and what type of approach it was. (e.g. 2/2/02 IAD ILS 19R). Or is it legal to simply log it as a ILS approach executed on a specific day? (e.g. 2/2/02 ILS)

Thanks.

If its for currency, I would definitely list which approach it was in the remarks section (ILS 19R into KABC). Your already required to log the date and destination (if for currency).

I will look it up later, unless someone else knows specifically.

Just remember that to log an approach (especially for currency), it needs to either be in actual or simulated IFR. You cannot be cruising around VFR and decide to shoot an approach in and log it. (unless you have a saftey pilot and go simulated instrument)

What he said. You need to list the location, type of approach, and the name of the saftey pilot that was with you. Remember, the saftey pilot must also be rated in the plane as well. No single engine saftey pilot if you are in a multi-engine planes.

So would just noting if it were a ILS, LOC, VOR, et cetera meet that requirement or does is have to specifically say ILS 19R? Also, as I currently fly 121, the safety pilot is not an issue. It isn't too hard to knock out 6 approachs in actual up here in the northeast during the course of a normal airline schedule.

Are you using software like excel to keep up? I suggest logbook pro as it enters those and keeps them. If in a logbook I got one out of sporty's that has that has individual colums for landings, approaches, type. You can just say route, # of approaches, and type. You don't have to say ILS 17R. I just log in my book point A->B 2 approaches ILS/VOR in their individual boxes. My logbook gives me a very tiny space to barely write LOC in let alone the runway.

Ya, I use LogBook Pro. (absolutely love it btw). The reason I am asking is because I have only been keeping track of approaches by date, type, and location; been to lazy to enter the exact appraoch in the remarks section.
