Yes I believe it us. However, our self respect goes a long way. Clean shaven, pressed uniform, our conversations in public (including the hotel van) & other things that catch the public eyes and ears. Keep it classy and be professional!

Well, not as much as you may think according to common stereotypes, but generally yes - people respect pilots. Besides, from my point of view, each profession deserves to be respected.

In the fire world, the collective "we" were affectionately known as "tanker trash."

When my inlaws found out my wife was dating a pilot, they pushed hard for me to get out of aviation and get an honorable job...on a road crew, shoveling tar. They couldn't understand how someone could be so irresponsible as to fly for a living.
