Default ATC STAR arrival slam dunks

WHY does ATC not just stick to the published arrivals? Why slam dunk or dive and drag you to the runway?

Imo the angles are fine, the artificial speed leashing is out dated.

speed leashing? Why not just use the published speed/altitude constraints?

Cause they don't work. Ever fly to Boston with a tailwind? Good luck catching those speeds

All you do is complain. Then argue with a person who disagrees with you.

ATC staffing (and thus workload) is determined by how many instructions they issue. Better for job security to talk you through every fix on an arrival vice issuing a descend via and the watching in silence.

Aside from proper STAR construction per 8260 Orders, when Flight Standards is asked by ATC to do a flyability check, we can do that in a 737NG and/or A-320/330 sims with historical tailwinds plugged in. This is in addition to what Flight Check normally does. Some STARS require waivers and flyability is always a consideration.

Also, traffic. The first guy in line gets slam dunked, and the last guy gets slowed way early. How often are the winds at 100 knots on the tail when you start the procedure, then a 50-KT crosswind at the approach control boundary? When the front of the line is only going 300 over the ground, the last guy in line going 500 has to slow early and descend into the same wind to hold the required in-trail spacing.

This is like the third or fourth thread you have started that links to a “Living the Dream” video. What gives?
