Although I don't agree with Skyhigh's position, at least he is honest with himself. Skyhigh, you are right. It is easier to have morals when your family isn't starving and everything is going great. It is much harder to maintain your integrity when times are rough. Those are defining moments on who you are as a person. I try not to judge people but integrity is one of those areas where this no wiggle room. If you don't have it, people can tell. I emphathize with your position. I have seen dirtbags get away with shady practices. I take comfort in knowing that I never have to look over my shoulder or worry about being exposed. I hope one day something will help you "see the light". Preferably some of those guys you know who think they've gotten away it will find out they didn't.
Thanks again for you honesty in a forum where you know your opinion will be the minority.

Old but timeless thread....
I'm reminded of a guy I used to be around when I was teaching. We'll say his nose was very brown, and I'd trust him as far as I could throw him. Thru being in the right place at the right time he made some 1st class inside contacts and got a job at a premier Major long before many of us. I suspect he lied about his time since most of the rest of us slogged it out at CFI's and check haulers and he mysteriously skipped that and the commuters.
The first sign of trouble was that he had to be spoonfed his training as a 727FE, next his attitude (holier than thou) had his rabbi very busy during his probation year getting him out of trouble. Finally near the end of that year he made one too many comments and either his rabbi couldn't or wouldn't help him any longer.
Justice was served.
As I said in an earlier post, I've done it the right way and the hard way, and I sleep as well as a freight dog can sleep at night....

I remember a guy I'd signed off for a CFII add-on. I was looking thru his logbook after his retake and noticed that he had a LOT of time in HIS Cherokee which was on lease-back at the flight school. I was there every day, and he wasn't around very much at all. I'm sure he was logging the time every time it flew, whether he was in it or not. I never told anyone except MY old instructor. Never heard if he ever got a flying job or just stuck to his cubicle-job.

Faking hours is unthinkable to me. Why would someone do this? I don't like being around pilots that are obsessed with hours even if they're NOT faking. Hours, hours, hours, it's all some people think about. They're usually poor pilots, too.

The crazy thing about faking hours...
If you're not willing to actually put in the time to fly the hours, then what is the point in faking them? So you can get a good job that lets you fly a lot? On top of that, most of the "good jobs" in this business ($$$) have the least amount of "fun" flying involved, so one that won't even get in an airplane they actually get to fly and goof off in, what makes them think the next level is so great?
Not sure if that all made sense to everyone, but something to think about.

I definitely wouldn't lie about your hours, but if they ask how many are fake, a good reply might be.
"I've never intentionally faked any hours, but I'm not perfect, so it's possible there might be a couple small errors in my math in the logbook."

Math errors (though preventable)are one thing. Pencil whipping is another. Sooner or later the truth is going to come out about one's falsification of experience. I just hope they don't take a ton of people with them.
