It's not so much aviation related but I've come across some pretty nifty call signs while in the Corps. In my CAAT (Combined Anti Armor Team) Platoon we have opposing sections made up of anywhere from 8 - 12 heavy machine gun and anti armor equipped humvees. The squads in my section were Hunter 1,2, and 3. The opposing section was Killer 1,2, and 3. Other CAAT teams across the Marine Corps have similar names that can be pretty creative.
Our battalions come up with some good stuff also. 3rd Battalion 4th Marines is called 'Darkside', my battalion was called 'Wardawg', and our overarching regiment was called 'Ripper'. There are certain individuals that are called by their unit call sign and a certain number so we would have 'Darkside 6', 'Wardawg 6', and 'Ripper 6'.
But as for aircraft I think I'll have to go with 'Puff the Magic Dragon' (An AC-130 Spectre gunship that helped us pound Fallujah in 2004). I also saw some pretty cool Cobra and Hornet call signs but I can't seem to recall them right now.
