We have 3 747's at Offutt AFB here in Omaha and they usually have pretty cool call signs but...I was in Lincoln doing a night flight with a student in a C150 and there was an E4 down there doing a checkride.
There call sign was Elma...I gave them a hard time about it and they said it was tactical deception, so I said if they were Elma we were gonna be Sabertooth 150. Tower and approach called us that the rest of the night.
On another x-country fight we heard 3 military birds ...Crusty 11, Crusty 12, and Crusty 13....so I proceeded to do Krusty the clown for the next 3 hours

We picked our own callsign one boring night out of Offutt (sp?) AFB. Since we were flying 707s, our callsign ended in "heavy." So, thinking it would be funny, I used SESNA 52 as our callsign. We all thought it was pretty funny until the Wichita controller told us we had to change the callsign- Cessna is proprietary (sp?). Anyway- for about 20 min until we switched, the crew and controllers had a few chuckles when they heard "SESNA 52 Heavy checking in Flight Level 240"

My vote for the best!!!. Had a few good ones for OEF. Mountain__ Everest___ Rapture___ Sneaky___ They tried to give us Velvet one night. That's when I knew some ******* fighter guy was laughing at the CAOC. We called and had it changed. I thought it was funny though. At our reserve unit we are Scalp___..the screaming Indians. Not very PC thank god.

"Nitro" (TNT) makes me smile. "Tiger" (FTL) and "Express" (old FDX) were a couple of my all time favorites.

I could just picture the other planes on HF that night wondering what on earth would use such a lame call sign
