Default AMD or Intel

Which is better and what would you choose?

I prefer AMD for price, but if Intel packs more punch then I'd pay the extra buck.

Well, I built my own computer, and AMD goes for a better price and is faster than many Intel chips. The only Intel chip that is better than any AMD chip is the Duo Core 2, which is completely superfluous unless you game for a living, so I'd go for an AMD.

Good luck. Are you building a comp?

It depends what you use if for, both have pros, and cons.

When you build a computer, you order all the pieces and put the computer together yourself, right? lol.

Can I order everything and have someone put it together for me?

tomshardware.com has benchmarks for all variants of Intel and AMD chips in various uses. In my experience it's the video card (for games) and the RAM that matter as far as perceived speed so I go AMD and load up the extra money on more RAM and a good card.

Yep, that's what I did!

You can buy pre-built, custom computers, but be warned that they will not come with any rebates/tech support/etc. Then again, you won't get these benefits if you build your own computer, but the advantage I've found with building my own computer is that I know exactly what's inside it, how it's put together, how to take it apart (need be) and put it back together, and how to correct something that has gone wrong.

Believe me, building a comp. isn't as hard as you would think. It took me around two hours to get mine up and running. Here are my specs:

2.4 ghz AMD (translates to 3.4 ghz Intel)
XFX 7900 GTX 512 mb (great for FSX)
4 gigs Corsair ram
250 gb. hard drive (western digital)
Gigabyte chassis case
Ultra-D mobo (DFI)
Antec true power 2 550W power supply
15" Viewsonic
Logitech joystick
Logitech mouse
Microsoft wired keyboard (standard)
Labtec headset & mic.
DVD/CD drive and a floppy drive!

Good luck!
