Default Slingbox

Does Anyone here use the Slingbox? How do you like it, and do you recommend it?

Does it change the channel on the TV at home if you are using it elsewhere?

Thanks

Slingbox is techno- crack. Once you use it.. you'll never want to give it up. It does however change the channel at the house so if someone else is watching it, it becomes an electronic tug-of-war.

If you only have cable with no cable box (with a splitter on your cable at home) then change channels on your slingbox to your heart's content and the picture at home won't be altered. It's when you have a digital cable box when the picture changes at home along with what you are watching on your Slingbox. I have my DVD player hooked up as well and as long as somebody puts in a DVD for me I can watch it via the Slingbox. Stuck in Japan for 6 months and the Slingbox is a savior!

If you get the slingbox, also get a travel wireless router. They only weighs ozs and are the size of a cigarette box. You will then be free from watching at the desk or stretching a cord across the room. I've had mine a month and it works great. Even picked up a signal at the pool in HNL and VCP. Wish i would have done it a long time ago.

Some considerations for Slingboxing: If your house is wireless, be aware the Slingbox must be connected to your router via an ethernet port, which can be problematic. SB isn't wireless.
You can hook SB up to a cable box or dvr without that device being connected to a tv. That can avoid the channel changing battles.

Sling now sells a network device that uses the electrical wiring in your own home instead of cat 5. Also, if you get your slingbox it's own cable box, you won't change channels on anyone.

SlingBox is a wonderful thing. Mine is almost two years old and I don't have any intention of changing anything. It works too good. It's true that what's-her-name and I occasionally have a long distance, electronic tug of war, but I think that I've finally convinced her that while I'm on a trip the bedroom TV belongs to me except at her bedtime.

And I occasionally change the channel when she's watching the late night news. It lights her up when I change it to "69".
