We created a Mason Williams song called Commie Bombers with the final line of "How to be a commie bomber, its just a curse... to be SACs finest just be ATC's worst." It got lots of laughs.

And I was around for all the jokes about the 'dreaded 7 engine approach' and that DFCs or at least Air Medals were in the crew meals out of U-Tapao while the fighters were going north. Everyone stopped laughing when the BUFs went north and the crews flew into the teeth of the NV defenses without all the jinking. Huge ones to do that... and repeatedly the BUF has accomplished its mission.

And yes, we did win the cold war but the Bear is rousing again and we would be foolish not to take notice, old Tu-95s or not.

You out of Barksdale? Went in there more than a few times with the 'water wagon'. Have you been sentenced to Diego Garcia? One place I missed.

(oh, I think it is 'ergo'.. one word unless one is confused and is thinking about the V1 abort thread where you hit V1, ask the other guy what he wants to do and he says, "Er.... go?")

Touche!! And always count on Slice for the godamn spell check. Always forget to use that feature. Yea, up at KBAD and lots of time on DG. I liked it out there. Nice and quiet. You're right about ergo too. Good posts. I agree about the aircrews in Vietnam. A helluva beating they took late in the war. Hopefully, history won't repeat itself. Good bull****ting with you.

Were you at DG when the crew bellied the BONE in?

A while back there was another BONE that was being 3 engine ferried back to the States.. what was the story on that one?

U-Tapao wasn't bad. I was in stan/eval when SAC was verbatim on the EPs and I think I wrote 'Cut-off" instead of "Idle Cut-off" on the engine shut down. The ONLY guy on the base to bust the EP exam... so the DO comes in, madder than hell and says, "We're going to fix your sorry *ss... we're going to send you to Thailand for 3 months. " I'm thinking, "It's early January.. temps are in the single digits and lower.. I'm walking around butt-deep in snow and the punishment for screwing up is to be sent to Thailand???? Hell, if you guys had just told me that months ago, I could have done at least two tours by now. NOT the comment they wanted to hear.

When I got to fly the H for a brief bit, we were on one of the low levels out in the middle of Nowhere Nebraska and coming out, the AC pushed 'em up and we pegged the VSI through about 25,000ft. Not bad for an old dog...

Did they ever fix the brakes or do they still scream and grab when taxiing?

I was out there in 2001,02,and 03. Lost one BONE when I was there. Everybody bailed over the ocean. No casualties. Alot of black eyes from masks being down etc. Don't know about the 3 engine ferry. The gear up was in 2004 I think. The brakes still suck. They don't grab, but they don't grab when you want them to either. Good thing for the chute. I was never in SAC (thank God) but we still have a few of those guys who won't go away. Yea, it will climb like a bat outta hell light. 390 on the deck and throttles up won't lose a knot until 20,000. Makes me make this face.
