Last month I was flying a discovery flight. I was about a mile out on final at our home base (tower knew me well) when a taildragger called tower holding short. Here is what followed.

Taildragger: "Taildragger 123", holding short 17R.

Tower: Taildragger 123 hold short, traffic on final.

Taildragger: Holding, traffic in sight... He is the one thats low on final right?

Me: We're not low, we were just planning on landing today.

Tower keys the mic and all we can hear are the controllers laughing.

Not the funniest of all the posts but it sticks out in my mind.

Heard at ZFW

NXXXX: "Can we get lower"

Center: " Descend and maintain X,000"

NXXX: " We're gonna need lower than that, what's the lowest you give us"

Center: " I can give you sea level, but I don't think you'll like the ride"

Default Sequence for takeoff

ATC (to wholly owned RJ crew, behind the mainline aircraft): "You're following the company ahead"

and vice versa..

Last week while waiting on a ground hold in LGA a Piedmont crew came on and asked ground if they could shut down their engines to conserve fuel to which the ground controller replied, "eh, Piedmont xxxx I'll have some better information for you in a minute but for now do NOT shut down, if you shut down right there you'd really f*@! me up!"

LGA is probably the most professional of the big 3 NYC airports. I'm not very familiar with EWR though. Things with JFK are often unprofessional, and break many FAA regulations and are nonstandard. Same with N90. But LGA seems to run a pretty good show.

You obviously never flew in/out of LGA back in 2001... Some interesting things back then!

I've heard that a couple times too. ATC telling us to follow company ahead, when its Continental aircraft we're following.

I had a controller ask me coming in to ORF one night if we were going back out with a Comair or Freedom callsign. I had to laugh at that one. Another time in JFK, ground told a Delta mainline flight to follow an Embraer Regional jet, "Ok, we'll follow the Comair looking thing." I'm pretty sure we're not the same company. Oh well.

on my commercial long xcross country i was flying over Charlotte, (very bored) when i decided to sing along with the only radio station i could pick up on the ADF , radio Disney. I had no idea the that hand mic transmitted over the radio when the button was pressed instead of the intercom. so after my incredibly bad rendition of a very embarrassing song of which i will not name, Charlotte approach comes on " air craft who was just singing say your dam tail number" me no response
