HAHAHA So you flew a 737 on flight sim then went to and jumped in the seat of your BBJ and was like "Huh This is really similar"?

Al,

The simple answer is that any such parachute system would add an immense amount of complexity and weight to the aircraft. Even if the airlines weren't so eager to save a nickel on safety as they are today, it would be prohibitive.

You can bet your bottom dollar that I would NEVER deploy one on an airliner that I am flying. I like my odds much better gliding it in... better yet how bout some memory items?!, CONT IGN: ON, AIRSPEED: 240KIAS minimum for engine relight.

LOL. that too. people sometimes seem a bit surprised when I tell them we don't fly with parachutes.

"So what happens if the engines fail?"

"Simple...airspeed, ignition etc..."

In my physics class we actually explored the helium idea in depth... TO be short, the sheer volume of gas needed would far out weigh any financial benefit... but neat idear anyhow..

2. We have not tried the glider idea yet on airliners because engineerers also work for the oil companies. If one engine were to stop working, the airplane will save a little fuel on the way to the destination. But if both engines were to stop working the plane wouldnt need that fuel in the first place!

3. We tried the filling airliners with helium years ago to decrease the total weight, but the air traffic controllers complained that they could not tell the difference between anyone's voices on the radio since we all sounded like Elmo and Alvin and the Chimpmunks.

You have a real good head on your shoulders, dont let the other people in here make fun of you. Infact all inventions to date were created by someone who was looked at by other people as "nuts".

Do you know where Florida is? You should head down to the Kennedy Space Center near Cocoa Beach. Knock on the front door and ask for Buzz or Neil. You'll know what to do after that.

I heard Mesa is hiring F/O's with 400 TT / 50 ME simulated on MS Flight Sim.

You should apply.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. I kind of expected some would direct a little flak but thats OK. The points I raised are pretty extreme. Actually I was not joking I just wanted to throw around a few unusual ideas to see if there might be a theoretical possibility they could work, since I don't know anything about aircraft engineering.

Thanks for the replies.

I love UnlimitedAkro's jokes. You have a very quick activating comedian mind.

Finally, sure MS Flightsim's default aircraft are not very realistic, what I failed to mention was I use the Level-D 767 and PMDG 737 sims. They're the best sims out there for realism. But don't worry I know the captain would laugh me out of the cockpit if I offered my flying "services" to help him land the plane in an emergency. They are good sims tho.

Sims are like sex toys.... they get the job done, but nothing beats the real thing
