Default APC sold...?

So with the announcement of Internet Brands Inc. does this mean that ads will be completely covering the forum?

Does this explain the slowness of the site?

Huh...I guess they haven't checked the demographics out at all if they think they can charge money for APCF...something about "I make less than $18,000/year" and "Family need before corporate greed!"

Naw, just a fee scale per infraction. It's a new concept.

You'll have to submit a credit card to join. Then, every * we deduct a quarter. A four letter word with stars, such as ****, will cost you a dollar. An infraction will cost you $10, but we'll give a 20% off at the regional forum. Only fair (volume discount)....

Will Internet Brands play an active role (or any role) in screening membership applications? Maybe we'll see a flood of applicants who are disgruntled police officers, underemployed Burger King workers, prepubescent airline pilot wannabes, and annoying lawyers.

actually being able to swear at some of the posters would make it worth it to me

I've never been able to get my favorite mod (that would be you, FDXer ) to give me an infraction, so maybe I'll pay for one now. An infraction for $100, Alex.

So .... let's talk politics, religion and sex!!

You'll see some advertising on the forum in the future, although they won't be obnoxious placements. If they completely covered the forums - how would you read the posts?

The tech migration has caused some usability problems - i.e. slow page loads but as the migration and load balancing is fine tuned we'll be back to normal.

No membership fees, although I do like the infraction model

Internet Brands owns vBulletin, the makers of this forum's software package. With that expertise available to us I expect that we'll adopt some "best practices" on the tech side. Take pprune.com for example, they were acquired by Internet Brands in 2007. They've benefited from the IT resource that Internet Brands presents, but have been left alone to grow organically as an online community. We don't expect to be any different.

As for memebership, don't worry vagabond - your grandfathered

As for the future deployment of ads on these forums:

If you look at the ads on PPRuNe Forums - Professional Pilots Rumour Network, whom IB also owns, they are not in your face. Contrast that with other large forums like The Hangar, who have ads littered everywhere and also require a fee upon registration.

I hope everyone can live with a few ads in return for continual free access to the heaps of useful information here.
