The MIA bound flight was the 42 y/o Virgin Atlantic pilot, not to be confused with the NY bound 47 y/o Virgin Atlantic pilot six months earlier.

$75,000 is simply not accurate. Using Airline Pilot Central's pay calculator, at the minimum guarantee of 65 hours, a 777 f/o would make just over $100,000/yr. The vast majority fly over the minimum guarantee. That being said, $100k/yr is still much, much too low - a product of United's bankruptcy contract. The pilot's salary is really immaterial to the incident anyway.
