Russian Professor predicts breakup of U.S.

I'm all for a breakup of the US. The blue states have been carrying the red states financially for forever it seems--e.g., South Carolina, which gets back more federal dollars than its populace kicks in. Heck, it'd probably be the quickest way out of the recession! Let the South secede this time, they can elect Dubya their king and take over responsibility (fiscal and otherwise) for Iraq.

You must be working for Acorn? ...or maybe the global warming affected you logical thinking?
Obviously, the last 8 years can hardly be described as fiscally conservative because Dubya was spending like a liberal in order to placate his socialist Pelosi opposition.
Overall, both sides are spenders; the left prefers to spend on welfare, Medicare, affirmative action and other government programs, the right prefers to spends on the military and by cutting taxes (but won't replace the 'lost' revenue with budget cuts). Neither side likes to save.
California and New York without a doubt are the states in most dire financial situation. Both are definitely blue states so your theory is way off.
Heck, a few years back the Tennessee Valley Authority had to help California with their rolling black-outs by supplying them with electricity at reduced rates. Thus the customers who live in the Southeast that you like to poke fun at had to subsidize the Californians for their State’s excessive and illogical environmental restrictions and the poor planning.
While we are at it, maybe someone can explain something I’ve been wondering about for years… Being from Europe originally, I know that the leftist parties there and all over the world - except the US - use the red color to symbolize their socialist/communist affiliation (supposedly red symbolizes the workers' spilled blood).
The conservative/moderate/libertarian parties use the blue color (symbolizes the sky or freedom I believe?).
Yet here in the US it's exactly opposite, the liberal/democratic/socialist/progressive party (whichever term you prefer) uses the blue color while the republican/conservative/neo-conservative sticks to the red color?
Why is that? Can anyone explain without trying to vilify one side or the other?

Yep, thread closed for political discussion.
Topics Not for Discussion
There are currently NO forums that provide a venue for discussing politics or religion. While DreamLaunch Media Ltd. and Airline Pilot Central embrace the diversity the world has to offer, these subjects often are very emotional and there are many different views. In our experience the wide range of views and emotions rarely contribute to a harmonious online community or beneficial contributions to the piloting profession.
