Any info on personal property taxes on small GA planes?
I'm debating whether or not I can afford to have the old Cub I've got down there while I'm working. Have a friend who will look after her in Juneau for the season otherwise. Would be cool to do some exploring there, but not sure I can justify the fuel cost to get there, and a state fee would probably make it too costly. Guessing it would apply whether I became a legal state resident or not? (I'm guessing CA probably does have some sort of tax like this, anyway)
Most of the bay area airports have a waiting list even for tie-downs. Half moon bay might have something but the local residents would love to close the place and will not allow any new hangars or new businesses.

Default Hangar space

Hangar space is at a premium in the bay, everybody wants a hangar. And waiting lists are long. Tie downs are what your gonna find the most of. Look into hayward and reid hillview to, and i think OAK might have some space by the depature end of 27L kinda by 33. Good luck!!

Where are you working in the bay?

Thanks exer,
I'm probably (fingers crossed) going to be flying at San Francisco Seaplanes doing tours of the Bay area in a Beaver (the sharpest one I've ever seen), and a C-180. Looks like a go. Just lots of concerns about moving there. Think it will be cool to fly a Beaver there though, beautiful area, and seems like a nice company. Stop by and say hello after April (probably). The flying will be a bit different than around Juneau, but looking forward to seeing a new place.
As far as flying the Cub down there, that's not looking so good I guess. Was thinking about basing her in Healdsburg, but fuel costs and tie downs and such probably too prohibitive for me right now. Flew the Cub to Florida and back a few years ago, but fuel was much less expensive then. We'll see.

Default Washington Seaplanes

Have you looked at doing some Seattle seaplane stuff. I had to job offers a few summers ago to fly the beaver in Washington state.

One was for Northwest Seaplanes out of Renton and the other was for Chelan airways out of Chelan Washington.

Neither of them paid very well however after you are done subtracting California income taxes, the high cost of living in the bay area and cost to keep your plane there it could even out.

Kenmore also hires pilots, however I hear that it is difficult to get hired there. There have also been ads on trade a plane for lodge pilots. Usually the lodge guys do well.

Thanks Sky,
I have looked at Kenmore in the past. That would probably be awesome too I guess. Would like the chance to fly an Otter someday and they've got 'em. Wrenched a lot on 1340 powered ones, and they are getting few and far between, so I'd probably have to settle for a turbine one.
The SF gig seems like a good bet for me now, as it looks like it will be pretty steady for the season. AK seems like it may take a hit with fewer people supposedly travelling there this summer (some articles about that showing up lately). I wish the AK operators the best this season. Some are still looking.
California was beautiful when I visited, almost surreal to fly a Beaver over the Golden Gate Bridge. Will be good to see a new place for a while I think.

Yeah, you better do it while you can 'cause Nancy will probably outlaw the internal combustion engine, at least in San Francisco
