Aviation Management Back up Degree?
#1

Hi,
I am a Junior in High School and I am at a dilemma about what to major in during college. My first option is to Double Major in Flight Technology and Aviation Management. I really want to do this because I really love every aspect of aviation and If I am furloughed I would still like to be around planes somehow. My second option is to Major in Criminal Justice, and minor in Flight Technology. I would still get all my ratings with out all the "filler" classes. In case I don't get on with a regional out of college I could get my masters in Criminal Justice while instructing at Kent. I really like option one because I love aviation and I know I would be much happier managing a small airport than being a police officer. Also, I believe that option 1 would give me a more rounded education in aviation.
P.S. almost all the classes between Aviation Management and Flight Technology overlap.

It would be a huge waste of money. I'm all for an Aviation degree, but a second Aviation Degree is no backup to the first. Get a Business degree to go with it if you like management. Almost every "Aviation Management" job listing only requires an Aviation degree, no "management" required...although if you only went with one Aviation Degree, I would go for Aviation Management.

Get a non-aviation degree if you want a backup. When things go all to hell, non-flying aviation jobs are not any easier to find than flying jobs...unless you are the very first guy to get furloughed.

FYI, the median wage for MBA's entering the market last year was $108,000/year to start.
Not bad huh!
Good luck with your flyng. If it goes south, put your MBA to work and buy a big house, a BMW, and some toys to help ease the pain.

Agreed!!!
Get the non-aviation degree....Criminal Justice and get your licenses & ratings at a local FBO if possible. If not, minor in Flight Technology, but your major should be in something other than aviation.
Here's a hint: Take a good look at all the professions that are hiring today during the economic hardships that we're facing as a nation. This should give you a clue as to what to major in. Kinda-va no-brainer if you ask me. Not being nasty.......just keeping it real.

That would still leave 20% of your money being wasted...a second Aviation bachelor's degree is worth absolutely nothing.
