Beef could be my friend's twin brother, except that my friend actually likes Top Gun, the movie, that great source of encyclopedic information on all things remotely associated with naval aviation.

I have come to the conclusion that F-18 guys are the same the world over.

My favorite observation....

So true

How do you explain an environment where the content of a man’s character can be summed up into two simple four-word phrases…….”He’s a good ****” or “He’s a @#*%@$ ‘ idiot.”

This is probably thread drift, but what the heck. I understand that if someone's callsign is a derivative of his real name, he is considered one of these "good ****," but if it's Sanka or Redbone or Slick, he's a @#*%@$ idiot."

A few of you have shared with me your callsign and I noticed it has something to do with your name. I have yet to hear from someone otherwise.

Personally, I like to be called ... well, nevermind.

Callsigns are derived either from some notable (usually not in a good way) incident or behavior, or if no such track record exists, a play on your name.

If somebodies callsign makes no apparent sense...best not to ask.

Same logic applied to Steve Martin's dog in "The Jerk"
