Military Callsigns (Europe)
Hello chiming in from over the pond with a question for the guys flying for the US military:
Often hear "Reach" and "Duke" etc.. callsigns (all over Europe) and apart from enjoying some "real english" on the radio I'd like to know what the callsigns represent in terms of aircraft or squadron etc..
Thanks and regards,
Euroflyer

Reach or RCH is a callsign for Air Mobility Command. It can be a military airlifter (C-17, C-5, C-130, KC-10, or KC-135), or a civilian carrier contractor (World, Evergreen, Omni Intl, etc.etc.). Unless you look at the flightplan and/or mission cut to see the tail number, there is no way to determine where the aircraft unit is.
If you are hearing Duke in Europe, it is probably an Army C-12 or UC-35 (I goggled and read that).
My two cents.

The guy that made that list needs a life! I remember "Kodak" coming off Bergstrom AFB in Austin, one guess as to what their mission was. And "Navy Rat" was a C118 I'd hear around NAS Dallas. Yes, I'm old.
"Reach" comes from the AMC's old mission statement of "Providing Global Reach..."
