"It landed on the southbound side of I-75."

So, USMCFLYER... you say "We bang on them enough for their mistakes so we ought to not bang on them when they are actually accurate. Based on the actual circumstances - he landed on eastbound lanes of I-75. IMO."
Are you referring to reports from WPLG or WSVN?

The pa-32's, and especially the T-Tail Lance, needs extra airspeed for the flare when landing with an engine out. The best glide speed to typical touchdown speed can cause gear damage due to the increased descent rate, which may be what happened to this guy. In my experience with this airframe, the best course of action is to pitch the nose down to increase airspeed 15 or 20 knots just prior to touchdown and bleed it off in ground effect.
Still, everyone walked away, so great job!

People are arguing semantics here. He landed on I-75 South. He was also on an Easterly heading - therefore, by definition, he was Eastbound. So it's safe to say that he landed Eastbound on I-75 South. If one chooses to look at a map of Alligator Alley, they will clearly eliminate any confusion.
