Sorry,
had to start it.
I cant stand it anymore. I realize airports are full of international passengers, but I cant deal with rampers and gate agents that don't speak plain english.
Isn't english the international language of aviation? Isn't this pertinent to safety?

How would you feel living in somewhere like Korea, Japan, Mexico, etc. if when talking to another American someone came up to you and started screaming at you to speak their native language?
Having traveled the world I'm more amazed than ever at the intolerance of some Americans towards other cultures. I've NEVER had someone in another country snub me for not being able to speak their language, quite the opposite. From all over Asia, to the middle east, and Europe. America is and always has been a melting pot of cultures.

Do they speak English when dealing with you and others? Can they speak English when required? Is there something wrong with speaking their native language when dealing with others that speak the same language?

That it has been a melting pot. But please, if you are going to come to this, or any country, please learn the language that is spoken locally. Do you expect to move to China, or Korea, or Russia, or Nigera and expect to get by on English. I would reason to bet your answer is no. You would learn the language or have a very hard time surviving. There is simply no reason for 2/3rds of bilboards in San Fernando valley being written in spanish. I have to agree with the OP, either assimilate to the countries lifestyles (i.e. language), or GTHO!

Not well enough for aviation safety.
Again, not well enough for aviation safety.
It is rude when others who don't speak the foreign language are present, so yes it is wrong.
I've never "screamed at someone" under this scenario or any other of the sort. I have started a thread on APC as it pertains to aviation safety
and in response to your last paragraph...
my ancestors gave up foreign languages

Are you a linguist?
The correct verb/adjective or noun placed after Ssssuuup can not be printed here or even simulated. I know as I have a permanent warning in my bad boy file here at APC due to simulating the Verb/adjective portion in part.
