Default First Airplane Trip Leaves Lasting Impression

I remember my first airplane trip. It left a lasting impression alright. Look at me now - a moderator on an aviation board and I still only have 19 hours in my log book!

My first flight... PanAm Boeing 707, London to New York, April, 1964. I don't remember it, as I was 2.

Second flight was a J4 Cub in Ohio, maybe 1970, or so. I remember that one well.

The Captain & I had a 5-6 year old boy come up last week to the flight deck and give us a brightly colored picture of an airplane flying. We covered our upper ECAM (engine instruments, currently shut down) and gave the little guy platic wings and an A320 info card...made his day & Mom's as well. I was very impressed with the way he colored completely within the lines.

I remember as a kid visiting the cockpit while in flight on a few different carriers and hanging out up there. I remember going up in mid-flight and staying up in the jumpseat with headset on until the engines were shut down at the gate.

It was life changing I think Too bad others wont really get to experience that...

My mother says she took me on a helicopter ride in about 1971 but I have no recollection. Airline flying did not impress me too much either although meeting my grandmother at Hartsfield in Atlanta around 1975 did.

Late 80's on DAL. I was amazed at how empty the plane was, how fast it accelerated, and how comfy the seats were.

to Wichita with his friend to pick up bundles of the Sunday paper..
